The Briefing Note
The goal/s behind the project
The briefing note's goal was to inform the Century Group executive directors about the importance of enhancing employee engagement, reducing stress, and promoting empowerment by adopting the six pillars of the human-powered enterprise. It aims to address current organizational challenges, particularly communication gaps and employee disengagement and provides actionable recommendations to create a more connected, efficient, and human-centric workplace.
My role and responsibilities
My role as an HR adviser is to advise Century Group’s executive directors on enhancing employee engagement, reducing stress, and empowering teams by implementing the six key pillars: EVP, well-being, DEI, leadership, workplace, and technology. I identify organizational challenges, recommend innovative solutions like project management tools and communication protocols, and promote employee-centric strategies. I help create a resilient, adaptable organization for sustained growth by fostering collaboration and aligning employee well-being with business goals.
The challenges I faced and how I overcame them
One challenge I faced was adhering to the page and word limit. Using AI tools helped me condense my work and retain the focused sections of the document.
An overview of the process
First, I determined how to write a briefing note and understand its purpose. Then, I selected an article that aligns with the potential needs of my chosen organization, Century Group. I summarized the chosen article and identified scenarios in which Century Group might encounter issues that could be addressed using the principles outlined in the Gartner article. Finally, I provided recommendations to help overcome those challenges.
The Funding Application
The goal/s behind the project
The objective of this project was to develop a funding application for a unique program established by Century Group. This program aims to support vulnerable individuals in our community by providing home renovations that enhance their quality of life.
My role and responsibilities
As the HR adviser, my primary responsibility was to create a compelling narrative that outlined the critical reasons and specific goals for which our program needed funding in the application process. This involved conducting thorough research to identify the program's benefits, aligning its objectives with the broader organizational mission, and presenting data-driven arguments to demonstrate its potential impact. I clearly articulated how the funding would enhance our initiatives, effectively making our case to stakeholders and decision-makers.
The challenges I faced and how I overcame them
I enjoyed working on this project. I didn't encounter many challenges while writing it.
An overview of the process
I conducted thorough research on how adequate housing can significantly benefit vulnerable populations, particularly low-income individuals, the elderly, and those with disabilities. This process involved examining these groups' specific needs and challenges, such as affordability and accessibility. I also explored how Century Group’s initiated program could address these needs effectively. By highlighting the program's offerings, I demonstrated our employees' commitment and enthusiasm to engage and participate in initiatives that support these vulnerable communities.
The Funding Presentation
The goal/s behind the project
This project was a continuation of the funding application, where I created a meaningful, persuasive, and passionate presentation detailing the program activities and their potential impact on the community.
My role and responsibilities
I outlined the specific activities planned for the program, highlighting how each initiative aligns with the community's needs. I provided an in-depth analysis of the expected outcomes and potential benefits for the community, illustrating not only the immediate effects but also the long-term positive changes that could result from our efforts. Through a combination of data visual aids, I aimed to create a passionate narrative that captured the essence of our mission and conveyed the urgency of support for this essential program.
The challenges I faced and how I overcame them
I enjoyed working on this project. I didn't encounter many challenges while writing it.
An overview of the process
I utilized the details from my funding application to develop a comprehensive presentation. In this process, I transformed the information into a visually engaging format, ensuring that key points were highlighted effectively to capture the audience's attention. The content was organized to reflect the application's structure, highlighting key data and insights in an engaging presentation style.
Policies & Procedures
The goal/s behind the project
The goal of this project was to create a policy and procedure addressing workplace bullying and harassment at Century Group, with the aim of reducing the distress experienced by employees and contractors.
My role and responsibilities
My role involved developing policies and procedures based on research, ensuring compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, and providing necessary training to prevent further incidents and create a safe work environment.
The challenges I faced and how I overcame them
One challenge I faced was that the construction site was involved in numerous incidents of bullying and harassment, which could easily be overlooked, particularly when constant supervision was not feasible. To address this issue, I made the complaint submission process accessible through various channels, including email, phone calls, and in-person reporting. Additionally, taking immediate action on the reports demonstrates the company's serious commitment to addressing bullying and harassment.
An overview of the process
I began by exploring all the relevant web pages on WorkSafeBC to identify what information I wanted to include for a real estate development company. I reviewed various sections and created a draft based on my findings. Additionally, I investigated WorkSafeBC's specific guidelines on bullying and harassment in construction, as these issues are prevalent on construction sites. Once my draft was in place, I enhanced it with detailed content sourced from the WorkSafeBC website.
The Business Case
The goal/s behind the project
The objective of this project was to fully implement the "Value Makeovers" program, which aims to renovate housing for low-income, elderly, and disabled individuals and families, enhancing their living conditions and improving their physical and mental health.
My role and responsibilities
As an HR Adviser, my role involved creating a business case that outlined the benefits of the program to the community, as well as its long-term sustainability and ongoing support for the community. I was also responsible for providing evidence through research about the potential outcomes if the program were not implemented, as well as suggesting strategies to address any risks of collapse.
The challenges I faced and how I overcame them
The challenge I faced was finding reasons why the program would be a significant benefit beyond just living conditions and accessibility. I decided to focus on mental and physical health, specifically examining how poor living conditions could negatively impact mental health through issues such as isolation and inequality. Extracting relevant scholarly articles proved to be more difficult than I anticipated. To overcome this, I conducted research using more specific terms related to my needs and narrowed my search to key phrases like “mental health,” “living conditions,” and “low-income” to find the most relevant articles.
An overview of the process
The process began when renovating only one or two houses proved insufficient to improve the community effectively. Therefore, implementing the program on a full-time basis became necessary to achieve the mission and vision. I drafted an outline that included key topics I wanted to cover, ensuring they were relevant. Once the outline was complete, I added detailed information about the program and its needs, supported by research.
